Milling is a crucial step in post-production of rice. The basic objective of a rice milling system is to remove the husk and the bran layers, and produce an edible, rice kernel that is sufficiently milled and free of impurities.  Our friends at Satake USA designs and manufatures the most comprehensive range of machines, processes and instrumentation for the entire rice sector.

A rice milling system can be a simple one or two step process, or a multi stage process.

One step milling – husk and bran removal are done in one pass

Two step process – removing husk and removing bran are done separately

Multistage milling – can be done in the village or local consumption or commercially for marketing rice; rice undergoes a number of different processing steps, such as:

  • Pre-cleaning
  • Dehusking or dehulling
  • Paddy separation
  • Whitening or polishing
  • Grading and separation of white rice
  • Mixing
  • Mist polishing
  • Weight of rice

It is not possible to produce good quality milled rice with poor milling equipment even if the paddy quality is optimal and the operater is skilled.  Satake USA can respond and meet your requirments for new rice milling technology, whether it be from simple laboratory equipment, an individual machine or a fully automated turnkey installation.

It is evenly important to service and maintain the mill properly. The rice mill should always be clean and well maintained.
